Yup! It’s the 1st day of school for my boys! Both of them! WooHoo!

This means I’ve got 3 and a half weeks to get lots of fabric dyed and other Candied Fabrics business stuff wrapped up. I also have to get my fall classes ready to go, but now I’ve got a glorious 6 hours every day with no-one saying “I’m bored”!  Logan, my 8 year old, just got his glasses yesterday…he was ecstatic when he found out last week he finally needed glasses, and was very anxious to get them before school started. 1st-day-of-school-09-06Of course, I’ve been spending the day wondering how they’re doing…1st-day-of-school-09-10

I’ve been MIA the last few days – our house was tented for termites, so we had to evacuate from Monday thru Wednesday morning. This involves taking anything edible and double bagging it in special bags. Now, even though they said that as long as the food was protected, everything was safe from fumes, I really could NOT move back into the kitchen without cleaning everything we cook with…as well as cleaning all the cupboards, etc… Now, this even was long overdue, but I’d rather have done it a cupboard at a time, rather than all at once. It gave me an excuse to do some serious unclutttering, which was awesome. But the only thing creative I’ve done this week is reorganize kitchen cupboards, so that’s all I’ve got to show you: DSC_0005 DSC_0008

I also generated a number from the giveaway that ran until Tuesday… 1st of all, the comments really made for a swelled head – thanks y’all, I’m glad to see that you can find so much to like in my blog. Thus…# 16 come on down, you’re the next winner! It’s Mary W. who commented:

…So I went back and read every post on your blog, and I think that my favorite thing is that you are doing something you love! It’s so inspirational to me, a person who has yet to figure that out…

WooHoo! What an awesome comment. Yes, I AM doing something that I LOVE! Actually, I try to do as much of that which I LOVE and as little of what I DON’T. I could really expand on this point, because it goes a long way to explaining how I can do the things that I do every day…but simply said, I try to not spend lots of time doing things that i hate…it could be little things like I don’t watch commercials (thank God for Tivo!) or it could be big things like NOT being involved in unproductive relationships.

But right now, I wanna go downstairs and watch some commercial free TV with the Hubby, who was an awesome help today – he’s also great at decluttering stuff…when I get him focused in that direction!

award_3Thanks sunniefairy over at octopi crafts for saying my blog is fabulous!
Here’s the rules:
1) Put the award on your blog
2) Put a link on your blog of the blogger who gave you the award
3) Nominate 5 other bloggers…

Okay, i’m no good at this part – if you’re reading and you’d like your blog to be marked as fabulous, drop me a line!

4) Leave a comment on their blog notifying them
5) List 5 things that I’m addicted to:

  1. Diet Coke
  2. Reading blogs
  3. Making my art
  4. Dyeing fabric
  5. Reading science fiction

On other fronts, I’m just about recovered from the hard drive fiasco. The happy part of this ordeal was I happened into a FABULOUS deal on a widescreen monitor over at Best Buy (it was the display model), so I’ve got more screeen real estate now – yippee!

I’ve also had a wicked cold, but am over the hump on that. Now I’m itching to make something, it’ll be small, as the Redlands Art Association is having a “Mini Multi Media Show” with entries due Feb 13, so that’s what I’m ruminating about now!

That’s it, I’m done! No more shows for me! Last week was hard, with 4 days of selling added on top of teaching my last week of classes. And, I probably won’t do those 2 shows again – but it was worth it this year, as my little business is “in the black” for this year! WooHoo! Now it’s on to finishing that pesky grading and making lots of Christmas presents! Next Saturday is the last day to get priority mail boxes sent out in time for Christmas delivery, so I’ve got my deadline!

And, becasue you can’t have a blog entry without pictures, below are some outtakes from this years Chrstmas card photo shoot:xmas-1

This is a question that MANY people ask ME!

The short answer is – I don’t.

My incredible husband does all sorts of things BESIDES being the Dean of the University of Redlands School of Music. He does just about all the shopping (except fabric of course!) and most of the cooking. Oh, and all the gardening…I used to help with that, but no more. And of course, we live in Southern CA which means things grow 12 months a year. And he’s a handyman extraordinaire, so he fixes most of what breaks around here, as well as build me stuff. Did I mention he’s the principal trombone of the Redlands Symphony, and he’ll be playing a concerto with them on Nov 1st? He is an incredible human being.

My 2 wonderful boys, at 7 & 11 are relatively self sufficient, and do quite well at playing together. Homework could probably be done quicker, and dirty clothes could go into the hamper without umpteen reminders, but they are great kids, and it all gets done in the end.

I hire a house cleaner who comes twice a month. Without this I would go insane. nuff said.

All this allows me time to make things. But I also teach at the University of Redlands (intro Biology classes for non-majors), and the start of every school year just wipes me out. Combine that with the stress of 2-3 upcoming shows, and I’ve been a wreck for the past 3 weeks. I have so many things I want to make, and not nearly enough time! I work towards balancing all these things, and I haven’t found that optimal combination yet. But I keep trying.

Hello world!

I’d like to use this space to share my process as I create my art. I attempted to do this on a group blog entitled side by side, and didn’t do a good job there, so let’s see if I can accomplish more with my very own blog!
